Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Egypt?

We offer:

Traineeships of up to 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to Egypt, starting in May 2022:

  • Coordination within the Delegation and with external interlocutors (COORD):

Main tasks:

  • Assisting in the organisation/follow-up of internal coordination groups chaired by the Deputy Head of Delegation (Communication Cell, Protocol Cell, Covid Task Force, ad-hoc Task Forces e.g. for high-level visits and events).
  • Assisting in the organisation/follow-up of external coordination groups chaired by the Deputy Head of Delegation (e.g. EU Deputy Heads of Mission meetings, Climate Diplomacy Group).
  • Notetaking in meetings such as the above-mentioned ones.
  • Assisting in the preparation of and follow-up to events and visits involving the Head of Delegation / Deputy Head of Delegation.
  • Participating in the logistical and substantive preparations of major events such as the November 2022 COP27, to be hosted by Egypt in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Qualifications or special requirements

  • An ability to perform well in multicultural, international work environments.
  • A thorough understanding of the European Union and its working methods.
  • Experience in the organisation of events and on protocol matters would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Arabic (modern standard Arabic or Egyptian dialect or both) would be an asset.

 

  • Trade Policy (TRADE):

Main tasks:

  • Conducting research and drafting notes on subjects related to trade and economy,
  • Monitoring developments in trade and investment,
  • Preparing materials for economic and trade reports (incl. compilation of press articles, statistical data, and macroeconomic analysis),
  • Logistical help with the preparation of meetings and events,
  • Assisting in meetings and taking minutes,
  • Archiving,
  • Participating in workshops and conferences.

Qualifications or special requirements

  • General understanding of international trade and economics,
  • Excellent drafting skills, eagerness to learn, motivation to work in a team, attention to detail,
  • Economic or legal background.

 

  • Governance, Gender, Migration and Civil Society (OPS 3):

Main tasks:

  • Support in following up and documenting progress gender mainstreaming in line with the EU Gender Action Plan.
  • Support in tasks related to planning and convening the Development Partner Groups chaired by OPS3 in particular the Governance Group.
  • Support in the preparation of briefings and visibility material including draft press releases, social media posts, and others.
  • Follow up on a timely input, update, and implementation of the Section communication plan, with particular focus on communication activities during international and national days.
  • Support in event planning, organisation and logistics .
  • Support in drafting concept notes and reports for the section
  • Review and compile the CSOs database.
  • Support to the mapping of strategic partners in gender equality and women empowerment. Qualifications or special requirements

 

Qualifications or special requirements

  • MA (preferably in International Development, Political science, International Relations)
  • Arabic and English (C2 Level), knowledge of French would be considered an Asset (level B2)
  • Previous experiences at the international level would be considered an asset
  • Experience in Egypt in gender and development related fields

  • Due to the very evaluative context of the COVID-19 breakthrough, applicants currently residing in Egypt will only be considered
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to produce insightful, precise and timely reports.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
  • Fluency in English and very good knowledge of Arabic required.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

EU candidates currently residing in Egypt must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the very evolving context of the COVID-19 outbreak in the host country.
