Since the mission began in November 2022, more than 200 modules covering over 33 specialties have been conducted.

The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine (EUMAM UA) in Spain has trained more than 8,500 Ukrainian military personnel since November 2022.

So far, more than 200 modules covering around 33 different specialties have been conducted. The courses, which are organized to complement the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, have been very diverse: from Basic Combat Training Courses to more specific ones such as Close Air Support, Combat Engineer, Humanitarian Demining, International Humanitarian Law, Vector Geospatial Data, Hyperbaric Medicine and Black Hornet UAV, among others.

Lieutenant Colonel Juan José López, Chief of Staff of the Toledo Training Coordination Centre EUMAM UA, stated:

"Spain's significant contribution to this mission, which to date accounts for 10% of all Ukrainian personnel trained, demonstrates the seriousness with which Spain approaches its international commitments. I would also like to emphasise the sacrifice and effort made by the Spanish training personnel carrying out their duties, with the aim of providing the best training to Ukrainian military personnel. I would not like to end without thanking the latter for the motivation and professionalism they are demonstrating in each module, with the commitment of being an effective tool in the defence of their country.”

Almost four years after the start of the conflict, the EUMAM UA operation in Spain has reached this milestone, demonstrating the ongoing commitment of Spain and the European Union to the defence and sovereignty of Ukraine.

EUMAM UA

The EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to defend Ukraine’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders and to deter and respond to possible future military offensives by Russia and other potential aggressors. EUMAM works closely together with all other like-minded international partners to provide training support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. EUMAM is open to the participation of third states. All mission activities are located on EU soil. So far, 24 EU Member States have offered training modules and personnel. The training is supported by the provision of equipment for lethal and non-lethal purposes to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This equipment is provided by Member States and funded by the European Peace Facility.
