Peru: Statement by the Spokesperson on the announcement of presidential election results

The European Union welcomes the announcement of presidential results by Peru’s National Election Board and congratulates president-elect, Pedro Castillo. We look forward to working with the President and his government, as well as with the new Congress.

The electoral institutions have worked in an effective and transparent manner through all stages of the electoral process, demonstrating Peru’s commitment to democracy.

Over the past years, Peru and the EU have developed a successful partnership across a wide range of areas, including on social inclusion and trade, the rule of law and human rights, as well as in multilateral and regional fora. The EU remains a committed partner of Peru and will work to continue strengthening this long-standing relationship.
