Qatar: the European Union and Qatar hold 7th informal Human Rights Dialogue in Doha

The European Union and Qatar held today in Doha the 7th Informal EU–Qatar Human Rights Dialogue in a constructive and open atmosphere, reflecting a shared commitment to address issues of mutual importance on a wide range of human rights issues. Both sides agreed that continued Dialogue is essential for fostering mutual understanding and strengthening cooperation at bilateral and multilateral lever.
The exchanges covered in particular equality and non-discrimination, women’s empowerment, the rights of persons with disabilities, labour rights, combating human trafficking, freedom of expression, association and assembly, rule of law, including detention conditions and death penalty, digital rights, freedom of religion and belief, as well as combating hate speech and anti-Muslim hatred. Discussion also covered aspects of human rights in conflict zones, including the situation in Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine, with special emphasis on and the protection of women and children in conflict.

The EU and Qatar further discussed multilateral cooperation, adherence to international human rights instruments, and cooperation within the United Nations human rights fora. In this regard, the valued mediation role of Qatar was highlighted.

The EU and Qatar reaffirmed their commitment to their positive engagement and agreed to hold the next edition of the Human Rights Dialogue in Brussels in 2026.
