Javi López visits Valledupar

El jefe de la Misión de Observación Electoral de la UE (MOE UE), Javi López, viajó ayer jueves al Departamento del Cesar para reunirse con el regulador departamental y los principales actores políticos de la zona

Javi López intense agenda of meetings began with a meeting at the Cesar Delegation of the National Civil Registry (RNEC), in Valledupar. RNEC delegates Tirso Cabello Gutiérrez and Luiyen Barrero Salazar, along with technicians from the National Electoral Council (CNE) and other officials from the office, explained the operation deployed by the Registrar's Office for the upcoming elections and the challenges they have had to face while organizing the elections.

The EU EOM then traveled to the Kankuamo reservation of Rio Seco, a natural enclave located on the edge of the imposing mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, where the head of the Mission met with the leaders of the Kankuamo, Wiwa, Kogui, Arhuaco and Wayúu indigenous communities. At the meeting, held in the traditional Makugueka village and organized by the Kankuamo governing council Jaime Luis Aria, the indigenous leaders explained to the head of the EU EOM the political organization of their communities and expressed their opinions and concerns about the impending elections.

The last meeting took place at the delegation of the Ombudsman's Office in Cesar, where Javi López met with the regional ombudsman José Rafael Hernández Peñaranda and some of the candidates for the 12th seat of the Special Transitory Peace Circumscriptions (CITREP). These candidates announced their intention to withdraw their candidacies due to the problems they had encountered in the process and the lack of support they had received from the State.
