EU EOM observers visited the Political School for Garifuna and Afro-descendant Women in Livingston (Izabal). In Guatemala, the Garifuna community has no representatives in the Congress of the Republic. For this reason, activist Gloria Núñez created the school in 2021 to promote the political participation of Garifuna women.

The objective is to provide them with the knowledge and tools to participate as election observers, polling station members or candidates. The school operates online, to give more women the opportunity to participate. Since this year, it also welcomes Afro-Costa Rican, Afro-Mexican, Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Honduran women activists.
