Rafah Crossing Reopens as EU Border Mission Resumes Operations

The Rafah Crossing Point reopened on 19 March for the first time since operations were paused on 28 February due to the escalating security situation in the region following US-Israeli strikes on Iran

The EU Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah Crossing Point (EUBAM Rafah) resumed operations on 19 March following an agreement between Israeli, Egyptian, and Palestinian authorities to reopen the Gaza–Egypt border.

Activities have restarted under the same operational framework that was in place prior to the mission’s temporary suspension on 28 February.

The Rafah Crossing Point is open again in both directions. On the first day of renewed operations, 25 individuals exited Gaza to Egypt, including nine medical cases, while 25 people entered Gaza from Egypt.

Since passenger movements began on 2 February, a total of 1,719 individuals have crossed through Rafah. This includes 869 entries into Gaza and 875 exits, with 310 of those crossings involving medical cases.

EUBAM Rafah continues to carry out its mandate by supporting safe, orderly, and coordinated crossings, while contributing to humanitarian access in what remains a highly complex environment.
