The RACC supports the concept of Judiciarization of the field of military operations of the G5 Sahel
Forty-five trainees from the 5th course of the G5 Sahel Defense College, senior officers from the armed forces of the 5G5Sahel countries from the rank of commander to colonel, participated from December 14 to 15, 2021 in the training: "Judiciarization of the field of military operations”. This two-day module, consisting of theoretical presentations, scenarios, and group work, fits into the high-level curriculum developed by the G5 Sahel Defense College.
This training was carried out by the EU Regional Advisory and Coordination for the Sahel (RACC), with the support of the Executive Secretariat of the G5 Sahel.
The concept of judicialization, formalized and developed in an innovative and positive way by the Fore Conjointe of the G5Sahel, enhances the work of military personnel by extending their action in the judicial field, while strengthening the bonds of trust between the populations and the Joint Force of the G5 Sahel.
The military operations carried out by the G5Sahel Joint Force aim to fight terrorism and cross-border organized crime (e.g., trafficking in arms, human beings, drugs). However, these serious facts are by definition penal and criminal offenses. The Judicialization in the field of military operations makes it possible to involve the judicial police services and judges in this struggle. Finally, the judicialization strengthen the legal framework for military operations, which considerably improves the care of victims and perpetrators, responding to the need of respecting human rights.
