Handover of the donation completing the refurbishment of the Iraqi MoI Female Training Institute

Today, 24 November 2020, the EUAM Dep Head of Mission, Ms. Anne Meskanen, and Human Rights and Gender Adviser, Jeff Hoppenbrouwers, officially handed over the last part of a donation in support of the Iraqi MoI Female Training Institute, consisting of medical equipment and medical training material. The entire project consisted of a complete refurbishment of the facility, several class and administrative rooms, and included furniture, computers, and classroom equipment. Brig. Gen. Abbas, Head of the MoI Training Directorate and Ms. Suad, Head of the Female Training Institute welcomed their visitors and gave a tour. The EUAM DHoM then expressed her pleasure to see the results of the refurbishment and the donation in kind, and said that the Mission was grateful to be instrumental in upgrading the facility, so important to raise the capacity of women officers and staff in the MoI. Gen. Abbas responded that with the facility the MoI would be able to increase the number of women in the MoI and thanked EUAM for the continuous good collaboration. Ms. Suad raised the importance of women in the relevant department and forces, and was happy to see the donation timely completed in the context of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The MoI Training Directorate and Female Training Institute look forward to continue the mutual excellent collaboration, including on the topics of Anti Domestic Violence and the development of the MoI contribution to the Iraqi National Action Plan II on Women Peace and Security.
