The Central African Republic marked an important milestone in strengthening environmental governance and the rule of law with the graduation ceremony of the country’s first class of Environmental Police officers.
Held at the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, the ceremony brought together the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Minister of Defence, the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation, representing the EU Ambassador, senior government officials and international partners. EUAM RCA was represented by the Acting Deputy Head of Mission / Chief of Staff.
In his keynote address, the Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to protecting the country’s natural heritage through stronger public policies and effective law enforcement. He highlighted biodiversity conservation, the fight against plastic pollution and the protection of ecosystems, particularly in the north-east and north-west of the country, as national priorities.
The establishment of the Environmental Police strengthens the country’s institutional capacity to enforce environmental legislation, protect natural resources and respond to emerging environmental security challenges.
As part of its mandate to support Security Sector Reform, EUAM RCA welcomes initiatives that reinforce professional, accountable and specialised security services. Strengthening institutions with clearly defined responsibilities contributes to better governance, the rule of law and the sustainable management of the Central African Republic’s natural resources.
