EUAM RCA supports strengthening crisis management in prison environments in Bangui

The Central African Republic’s Directorate General of Penitentiary Services, in cooperation with EUAM RCA and MINUSCA, organised a simulation exercise at Ngaragba Central Prison to strengthen interoperability among the various security actors involved.

Nearly 250 personnel from the penitentiary services, Police, Gendarmerie, FACA, Fire Brigade and emergency medical units took part in the exercise, which was coordinated by the Directorate General of Operations (DGO). The scenario focused on a prison riot involving a hostage-taking situation within Bangui’s central prison.

The simulation provided an opportunity to test alert mechanisms, operational coordination, crisis management procedures and communication among the different units engaged. The exercise also aimed to strengthen the capacity of participants to respond effectively to complex incidents in a prison environment.

Through this partnership, EUAM RCA continues to support the development of more professional, coordinated and better-prepared penitentiary services capable of managing major security incidents.
