Efforts to strengthen gender integration within the security sector in the Central African Republic reached an important milestone. On 24 June, national authorities and international partners came together for a high-level workshop dedicated to strengthening the gender dimension within defence and security institutions.
Organised by the Ministry of National Defence and Army Reconstruction, in partnership with UN Women, the event brought together senior government officials, representatives of the defence and security forces, and international partners. Participants included the Minister of National Defence and Army Reconstruction, the Minister for the Promotion of Gender, Protection of Women, Family and Children, and the European Union Ambassador to the Central African Republic. EUAM RCA’s Acting Head of Mission, accompanied by the Mission’s Human Rights Adviser, also took part in the workshop.
The meeting marked the official validation of the gender directive and the handover of a gender training manual to the Ministry, as well as the presentation of the new Joint Strategic Reflection Centre. On this occasion, the Minister of Defence praised the support of the European Union and expressed particular appreciation for the civilian mission EUAM RCA for its consistent support in integrating the gender approach into the security sector.
This recognition reflects EUAM RCA’s continued commitment to supporting the Central African Internal Security Forces in strengthening institutions that are more professional, accountable and effective. Beyond strategic advice, the Mission integrates gender-sensitive training modules into programmes for the National Police and National Gendarmerie, while encouraging greater participation of women in capacity-building activities.
Building effective security institutions is not limited to providing equipment or strengthening operational capacities. It also means ensuring that these institutions reflect the country’s diversity and respond to the needs of all citizens. By supporting more inclusive governance and better representation, EUAM RCA continues to help build more resilient institutions that serve the Central African population.
