Visit of Central African Republic parliamentarians to the EUAM RCA Mission

31.01.2023

The Parliament plays a crucial role in the parliamentary control of the Security Sector Reform (SSR). It is in this spirit that the EUAM RCA Mission welcomed, on January 27, a delegation of Central African Republic parliamentarians, including members of the Defense and Security and Foreign Affairs Committees, for a presentation of the work and activities of the Mission in its support to the reform of security institutions.

In his opening speech, H.E. Douglas CARPENTER, the European Union (EU) Ambassador to the Central African Republic (CAR), emphasized that the Mission's involvement in the CAR is part of the EU's support for the development of the country. The Head of the EUAM RCA Mission, Mr. José MARQUES DIAS, then presented the Mission’s mandate and its organization. Finally, the strategic advisors of the Mission gave an overview of their respective areas of intervention.

This exchange was the first of its kind. It enabled the strengthening of ties with the parliamentarians. The latter were particularly interested in the gender and environmental dimensions of EUAM RCA. The Chair of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, Ms. Emilie Béatrice EPAYE, pledged her support to the Mission in carrying out its mandate.

The dense and intense discussions between participants have allowed to exchange, deepen and explore new avenues for future interactions.
