EUBAM Libya and Operation IRINI explore initiatives supporting Libyan maritime authorities

At the Headquarters of EUNAVFOR MED Operation IRINI in Rome, Operation Commander Admiral Casapieri welcomed EUBAM Libya Head of Mission and EU Head of Delegation together with Ambassadors from EU Member States based in Libya as well as several like-minded partners. The exchanges focused on IRINI’s role within a changing regional and global environment, as well as on opportunities to deepen support to Libyan maritime authorities nationwide through training initiatives, capacity development, and closer cooperation.

Operation IRINI represents the European Union’s enduring maritime security engagement in the Mediterranean and remains an important contribution to Libya’s progress towards peace and stability. The operation plays a central role in addressing security risks at sea, ensuring compliance with international maritime law, and responding to hybrid threats, including those affecting critical infrastructure.
