EUBAM Libya continues to support Libyan law enforcement agencies in online investigations to fight cross-border crime and terrorism

The EUBAM Libya mission got involved in some cyber-training recently, helping law enforcement to understand the ways in which open source intelligence techniques can help investigations.

EUBAM Libya organized from 6 to 9 November in Tunis an Advanced level training on open-source investigation techniques for Libyan officers from several national law enforcement agencies, among others the Libyan Counter Terrorism Centre (LCTC), the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) and the General Administration of Anti-Narcotics (ANGA).  The training was organized to deepen the knowledge of the participants who had already learned basic online investigation techniques in the previous training organized by EUBAM Libya in August 2023.

They were guided on how this information can be analyzed and used in practice in investigations targeting cross-border crime.

EUBAM Libya Senior Organized Crime Advisor Vincenzo Cardinale, the person in charge of organizing the training, highlighted the importance of online investigation skills: “We know that investigations are becoming more complex as terrorist and organized criminal groups are becoming more sophisticated in their modus operandi. Global policing must evolve with the changing threats in today's digital age. EUBAM Libya contributes to enhancing the capacity of the relevant Libyan law enforcement agencies to respond to these new challenges”.

Participants gave excellent feedback on the training and confirmed it provided them with new skills that will be put to use in their everyday tasks. EUBAM continues to work closely with these law enforcement agencies to support their capacities to fight cross-border crime and terrorism and to effectively respond to the new challenges emerging in the country.
