EUBAM Libya: Cooperation in the maritime domain

The EUBAM Libya Border Management Unit hold a meeting with the Libyan Customs Maritime Department at Tripoli Seaport on 2 April 2023. 

 

The purpose of the meeting was to follow up a previous one after the evaluation of the information and requests provided to the Mission on supporting the custom maritime agency. EUBAM Libya confirmed the interest in the cooperation with Libyan customs also in the maritime domain and confirmed that a closer cooperation should be established during the next mandate.

In particular it was highlighted that the support will be shaped into two phases according to short, mid- and long-term needs. Regarding short term the availability has been confirmed to start refresh trainings on operations management, board operations, communications as well as joint operations embedding their personnel in already planned courses.

The maintenance of a small boat with Mission support - that should allow them to perform their activities within Tripoli harbour – was also discussed.

Customs Colonel Ismail Dardour, Director of the Department, honored EUBAM Libya’s Senior Maritime Advisor and the Customs Adviser for the excellent cooperation between the Department and the Mission.
