EUBAM: Training of Trainers for Libyan border guard instructors

Securing Libya’s vast desert and coastal borders is a monumental task that requires long-term, self-sufficient solutions. Key to every successful organisation is its capable personnel.

EUBAM conducted recently a comprehensive 5-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme in Tripoli for trainers from the Libyan Border Guards representing both the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Scenario-based learning allowed the participants to acquire practical knowledge and new skills based on modern techniques and training methodologies.

" We have worked together for years. The support by EUBAM plays a vital role in enhancing the performance and capabilities of our personnel", stated Lieutenant General Mohamed Lakry, Chief of Staff of the Border Guard under the Ministry of Defense at the closing ceremony.

"Training is only as effective as its longevity. Through interactive learning methodologies and scenario-based exercises, we aren't just teaching concepts, we are supporting a sustainable capacity to shape the next generation of skilled Libyan instructors. It has been rewarding to see the engagement of these officers during the training. They showed an impressive level of commitment", tells EUBAM Senior Border Adviser, Javier Navarro Dorado.

Europe’s security is strengthened through partnerships that support neighbouring countries such as Libya to manage their borders effectively.

Established in 2013, EUBAM Libya’s objective is to enhance the capacity of the Libyan authorities and agencies to manage the country’s borders and to fight cross-border crime.
