30.03.2023

To commemorate International Women's Day, EUCAP Sahel Mali Mission organized on March 21, 2023 at l’Ecole de Maintien de la Paix in Bamako, a morning debate with the women of the Internal Security Forces of Mali (ISF).

The women gathered to discuss the theme: "female leadership for security in Mali".  The discussions, which were very enriching, focused on the career paths of the women of the ISF, their daily professional life, the internal and external challenges related to their work, career, family and social constraints. The women had the opportunity to hear from one another the similarity in their challenges in all three forces (the national police, gendarmerie and national guards), and that even though women are represented, this does not lead to their involvement in decision-making processes. The key objective of this morning debate was to raise awareness on the role of women in security and gender mainstreaming within the ISF and to improve communication on the role of women as leaders and actors of peace.

The debate saw the participation of the acting Head of Mission of EUCAP Sahel Mali, the Director of Training of the National Police, representing the Director General of the National Police, the Ambassador of Denmark in Mali, and civil society organizations in the field of women's rights and human rights.
