As EU Day on May 9th, is designed to foster unity among Europeans, the Vice President of Puntland State of Somalia said the same should happen in the Horn of Africa nation.

Abdihakim Abdullahi Hajji Omar was addressing the audience, including high ranking officials and government department heads, at an event jointly delivered by the Puntland members of the project “Joint Maritime Information and Coordination Centre” (JMICC) Core Planning Team and the Mission’s Maritime Adviser in Garowe, Puntland State of Somalia.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the purpose, present the provisional vision and mission statement of the future JMICC and demonstrate maritime situational awareness tools.

EUCAP is a civilian EU mission, under the auspices of the Common Security and Defence Policy, which assists Somalia in strengthening its capacity to ensure maritime security.
