Celebrating Women Leaders on International Women’s Day in Hargeisa

08 March 2026, Hargeisa - Our Field Office in Somaliland, together with the Somaliland Good Governance Commission and Siraad Initiative, marked International Women’s Day by recognizing women leaders serving in government and law enforcement. The event also provided a platform for dialogue on strengthening women’s leadership and participation in decision-making.

To mark International Women’s Day, our Field Office in Somaliland, in collaboration with the Somaliland Good Governance Commission and the women’s empowerment organization Siraad Initiative, organized a celebration event in Hargeisa.

The event brought together nearly 40 women from law enforcement institutions, government bodies, civil society, and local women’s empowerment organizations. It was attended by several high-level women leaders, including the Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Development, the Deputy Minister of Health Development, the Director General of the Good Governance Commission, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland, and senior representatives from the Police, Coast Guard, and Immigration.

During the event, these women leaders were recognized and awarded for their dedication and commitment to serving their communities and advancing public service.

A roundtable discussion was also held, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange experiences and explore ways to further strengthen the role of women within public institutions. The discussion highlighted the importance of promoting women’s leadership, encouraging their continued commitment to public service, and ensuring their meaningful participation in decision-making processes.
