EU Open Day 2018 in Mogadishu

On 9 May 2018, EUCAP Somalia joined EU, Somali and international partners in the celebration of Europe Day in Mogadishu. The celebrations highlighted the EU’s contribution to the peace, stability and development of Somalia through the Integrated Approach. Speeches were given by Fulgencio Garrido-Ruiz, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the EU Delegation to Somalia; Alexander Rondos, EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa; and H.E. Hassan Ali Khaire, Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia. The celebrations also saw a cultural performance.
EUCAP Somalia’s visibility stand presented the Mission’s support to improved Somali civilian maritime law-enforcement capability, which covers the full spectrum of governance, institution-building and operational development.
EUCAP Somalia Head of Mission Maria-Cristina Stepanescu handed over the Mission’s crest to the Prime Minister. EUCAP Somalia is a civilian EU mission, under the auspices of the Common Security and Defence Policy, which assists Somalia in strengthening its capacity to ensure maritime security.
