EUCAP Somalia donates equipment to Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre

On 16 October, EUCAP Somalia donated equipment to Somalia’s Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre in Mogadishu.

The donation was signed between the EUCAP Somalia Head of Mission Kęstutis Lančinskas and the General Director of the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport, in the presence of the responsible Minister, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, and the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Francesca Di Mauro.

The donation will significantly boost maritime safety in Somalia by improving the capacity of rescue centres to coordinate Search and Rescue (SAR) operations efficiently, enabling timely emergency response, and strengthening communication and monitoring systems at sea - in compliance with international obligations and safety standards.

The equipment provided will increase the availability of advanced communication tools, provide real-time data access, and ensure effective operational coordination. These are essential for saving lives, and for the prevention of maritime accidents.
