Federal Darwish HQ Plugged into Solar Age
The installed system makes the Headquarters self-sufficient in electricity, day and night. It will provide enough energy to power all of the building’s electrical systems, such as fluorescent lamps, night-time spotlights, extension chargers, IT equipment and air-conditioning. The system is designed to be easily extendable with additional panels, if necessary, with no need for further modifications.
The local engineering company, SACCO ltd planned and carried out the project. Engineer Mohammed tells that solar power is nowadays a common solution in Somalia.
“Solar power is also a growing business in rural areas, and there are about 20 companies functioning in the country. Solar power is often used for normal household supply and pumping water to the fields”, he says.
“The system we built for the Federal Darwish is about medium size. In our contract, we have also committed to training the staff to carry out the basic maintenance for the system, so that it remains functional long into the future”, the engineer concludes.
