Puntland Attorney General's Office completes EUCAP Somalia training on maritime law
EUCAP Somalia conducted a 16-day training on maritime law to the Puntland Attorney General’s Office, strengthening local capacity to prosecute maritime-related crimes.
The training took place between September and December and was delivered in Bossaso. It focused on international and national maritime law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, International Maritime Organization Conventions, and Somali legislation. Key topics included maritime jurisdiction, ship regulation, piracy, illegal fishing, human trafficking and smuggling at sea, criminal investigations, court procedures, and human rights. The training promoted concrete discussions and sharing of best practices and experiences, helping prosecutors address real operational challenges.
The successful conclusion of the training marks another testimony of the Mission’s unwavering commitment to maritime security, justice, and the rule of law, including through its Field Office in Puntland.
