Somali Minister of Interior and EUCAP Somalia discuss strengthening the country's security institutions


The Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, Gen. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), today held a meeting with a delegation from EUCAP Somalia led by the Head of Mission, Kestutis Lancinskas. The meeting was also attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Internal Security, Mr. Mohamed H. Shire, along with several departmental directors from the Ministry.

The discussions focused on strengthening security cooperation, technical assistance, and training support provided by the Mission to Somalia’s security institutions, particularly the Somali Police Force, the Darwish Forces, and the Somali Coast Guard. The meeting also addressed the ongoing review of EUCAP Somalia's strategy and ways to align security support with the priorities of the Federal Government of Somalia.

The Minister of Internal Security and the Director General emphasized the importance of government ownership, coordination, and oversight of all efforts aimed at supporting Somalia’s security institutions. For his part, the Head of EUCAP Somalia reaffirmed the Mission's commitment to continuing its support for Somalia. 

Both sides agreed to convene a technical meeting to further advance the review of the Mission's strategy, strengthen security cooperation, and enhance support to Somalia’s security institutions.
