Successful seminar on International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships to Puntland Maritime Police Force
EUCAP Somalia’s Field Office in Puntland successfully concluded a two-week seminar on the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) to 15 Puntland Maritime Police Force Commanders.
The seminar covered all six MARPOL Annexes on oil, noxious liquid substances in bulk, harmful substances in packaged form, sewage, garbage, and air pollution.
Participants also engaged in an oil spill response chartwork exercise, enhancing their practical understanding of pollution control and emergency preparedness. As part of the hands-on learning, the participants conducted a beach visit to discuss Annex V (garbage) in a practical context—observing different types of marine litter, followed by a beach clean-up activity to witness the visible impact of pollution reduction and marine environmental protection.
