EUMA Supports World Environment Day events
On 5 June, EUMA team members organised and participated in events marking World Environment Day.
In Yeghegnadzor, EUMA together with the Arpa Environmental Foundation engaged young people aged 14 - 18 in discussions on environmental challenges. Participants were introduced to EUMA’s mandate and activities and were encouraged to share their concerns about environmental issues affecting their communities.

One of the topics raised was poor air quality, particularly during the autumn months. Burning of garden waste is a common practice, despite its harmful effects on air quality, its contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, and the loss of valuable soil nutrients. Composting, by contrast, improves soil fertility, does not pollute the air, and generates significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions. To promote this practice, EUMA mission members conducted a composting workshop combining practical demonstrations with theoretical guidance. The workshop encouraged participants to learn more about composting and consider adopting it in the future.

In Martuni, members of the FOB team organised an environmental clean-up hike along the Ttujur Circular Trail in Gavar in cooperation with the organisation Sarvor. The initiative aimed to raise awareness of the environmental impacts of pollution and littering.
This was a meaningful day for both EUMA members and the local population, fostering engagement in activities that underscored the importance of a clean and healthy living environment.
This year, the World Environment Day focuses on climate change - on the urgent signals the Earth is sending and the signals we choose to send back.

In the South Caucasus, climate change is expected to affect key areas such as rainfall patterns, biodiversity, and agriculture. EUMA engages regularly with civil society, academia, and international partners on environmental issues in order to remain informed and to incorporate observations and findings from the ground into its broader conflict analysis.
