Aide-de-Camp to the Mission Force Commander: At the Core of Leadership and Coordination
Having served as an Aide-de-Camp since 2020 — supporting three-star generals and most recently the four-star Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Air Force — the role at EUMAM MOZ builds upon years of experience at the highest levels of military leadership. That background shaped a mindset centred on precision, loyalty and constant readiness.
The majority of the coordination work is tactical and operational in nature: aggregating information from multiple branches, anticipating constraints before they materialise, and proactively seeking solutions. The objective is clear — ensure that decision-making remains fluid and that leadership can focus on intent rather than friction.
Managing the Mission Force Commander’s Front Office goes far beyond agenda planning. It involves synchronising engagements with MHQ EUMAM and Mozambican authorities, supervising correspondence and reports, and coordinating closely with the protection team to ensure seamless execution of official movements and visits.
The ADC interacts daily with entities external to the organisation, including senior state representatives and high-level institutional authorities. In such an environment, tact and diplomacy are not optional — they are operational necessities.

Being “within arm’s reach” — or always within line of sight — of the entity one serves is not symbolic; it reflects a constant posture of readiness. The aim is to minimise any potential discomfort for the Commander, and by extension, for the institution represented.
Equally important is the management of time. Reducing idle gaps to the absolute minimum and transforming every interval into something purposeful, efficient and productive is part of the discipline of the role.
Open-mindedness, patience, discretion and trust form the foundation. But above all, the ADC function is about service — ensuring that leadership is enabled, protected and empowered to deliver the Mission’s objectives.
At EUMAM MOZ, the ADC is not simply supporting command — the ADC is reinforcing its effectiveness.
