Chief of Defence of the Portuguese Armed Forces Visits Portuguese Military Contingent Deployed at EUMAM MOZ
Upon arrival at EUMAM MOZ Headquarters, the Mission Force Commander (MFCdr), the Portuguese Navy Commodore Pires Correia, welcomed General José Nunes da Fonseca and presented a comprehensive operational briefing, focused on the work that the Portuguese contingent has been carrying out during the mission's mandate.

The Portuguese military personnel have been contributing to the ongoing operational training cycle of the Quick Reaction Forces (QRFs), and delivering specialised programmes aimed at strengthening the long-term capabilities and self-sufficiency of the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM) in counterinsurgency operations.

The following day, EUMAM MOZ MFCdr, Commodore Pires Correia joined General José Nunes da Fonseca during a religious ceremony held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception in Maputo, led by the Archbishop of Maputo, João Carlos Hatoa Nunes, and the Bishop of the Portuguese Armed and Security Forces, Sérgio Dinis.

The visit represented an important moment of recognition of the senior leadership of the Portuguese Armed Forces to the commitment, professionalism and dedication of the Portuguese military personnel, reinforcing the link between both.
EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission with a mandate until June 2026. It focuses on the operational training cycle of the QRFs, while providing specialised training to enable the FADM to become self-sufficient in the fight against insurgency. EUMAM MOZ includes 83 military and civilian personnel from 12 nationalities, 44 of whom are Portuguese.
