Matutuíne, Mozambique - The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) carried out a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activity this morning at the São Roque Mission Orphanage, located in Bela Vista, Matutuíne district.

The initiative gathered mission personnel and dozens of children from the institution, aiming to strengthen ties with the local community, support non-military actors and provide moments of learning, interaction and joy.

The São Roque Mission - run by "Comunidade Católica Sementes do Verbo" - hosts children who are orphans or in vulnerable situations, offering education, healthcare, food, spiritual guidance and the conditions necessary for their full development. With capacity for around 50 children, the institution remains a key reference of support in the region.

The activity organised by EUMAM MOZ included several recreational moments such as sack races, buddy running, rope games, drawing and painting sessions, and other playful exercises using balloons, watercolor materials and sports equipment provided by the mission. Led by CIMIC personnel, the programme ensured a safe, inclusive and dynamic environment for all participants.

At the end of the morning, a small snack - sponsored by Hotel Cardoso - was offered to the children, providing an additional opportunity for conviviality and community engagement.

In addition to the planned actions, the mission supported a special act of solidarity: the donation of handmade dolls crafted by the NGO “Reino Mágico Mães do Mundo”, prepared for the children of the São Roque Mission. The dolls were delivered at the end of all activities, symbolising care, affection and the importance of cooperation between different societal actors.

This initiative highlights EUMAM MOZ’s ongoing dedication to working closely with civilian partners, supporting the local community and building strong, trust-based relationships.

EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission with a mandate until June 2026, which supports the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (FADM) with the aim of strengthening the sustainability of Mozambique's Quick Reaction Forces (QRF), integrating them into a robust and autonomous operational cycle. It is currently commanded by Commodore César Pires Correia and comprises 83 military personnel of 12 nationalities.
