EUMAM MOZ delivers new water supply system to AACOSIDA

The infrastructure, comprising a borehole and a water tank, was built as part of a Quick Impact Project (QIP), signed on 17 July 2025 and funded by the Federal Republic of Germany through the European Peace Facility (EPF). The implementation of the project, which was initiated in response to a need identified by AACOSIDA and aims to strengthen hygiene, health and well-being conditions for the children who will be accommodated at the institution, was supported by the mission’s Civil-Military Cooperation component. 

The formal handover of the water supply system took place during a ceremony in Pessene, presided over by the EUMAM MOZ Force Commander, Commodore César Manuel Pires Correia. The ceremony included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and the handover of the infrastructure keys to the Chairman of the AACOSIDA Board of Directors, Dr Dumissane Joseph Macano.

During the ceremony, the importance of Civil-Military Cooperation in identifying the specific needs of communities and developing targeted responses was highlighted. Although integrated into a military assistance mission, this component enables EUMAM MOZ to build relationships with local institutions and support projects with a direct impact on the population.

Prior to the handover of the infrastructure, the EUMAM MOZ Force Commander visited AACOSIDA’s current facilities, where he learned about the work carried out by the association and the conditions in which the children are accommodated. On the same occasion, food supplies, clothing and toys were donated to the children currently accommodated at the institution.

The completion of this initiative is the result of cooperation between the European Union, EUMAM MOZ, the Federal Republic of Germany, AACOSIDA and the other partners involved, highlighting the value of international cooperation in implementing projects aimed at addressing the specific needs of Mozambican communities. 

With the system now operational, AACOSIDA has a more reliable and sustainable solution for its water supply, creating improved conditions for the future operation of the orphanage and the accommodation of children.
