Maputo, Mozambique - The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) took part in a high-level conference held this morning at Joaquim Chissano University, organised by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CEEII/UJC) in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES Mozambique).

EUMAM MOZ was represented by Lieutenant Colonel Dominik Horn, Gender Advisor, underscoring the Mission’s continued commitment to integrating gender perspectives into security and defence related discussions in Mozambique.

The event formed part of the “Café de Paz e Segurança” (Peace and Security Café) series, focusing on the theme “Dimensions of Political and Gender Legitimacy in Multilateral and Bilateral Military Interventions in Cabo Delgado.” The conference brought together academics, researchers, public-sector representatives and civil-society partners to explore the complex dynamics surrounding regional security, legitimacy, and gender inclusion in military contexts.

Throughout the session, participants discussed the different narratives underpinning international interventions, the role of local perceptions in shaping legitimacy, and the importance of gender-responsive approaches in conflict-affected regions. Presentations also examined how multinational forces operate within Mozambique, the evolution of security cooperation, and the value of inclusive strategies for strengthening community trust.

EUMAM MOZ’s participation reflects its dedication to engaging with academic and strategic partners, contributing to informed dialogue on security challenges and reinforcing cooperation with Mozambican institutions committed to peace, stability and capacity-building.
