Maputo, Mozambique – The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) took part in the Marine Corps Day celebrations held at the Katembe Training Camp, in an event marked by tribute, recognition and appreciation for the service rendered to the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM).

The ceremony included a tribute to Lieutenant-commander Marine Francisco Caetano Tomás Jone, a former FADM combatant wounded in action in Cabo Delgado Province. His life journey and dedication to serving the nation were highlighted as an example of courage, resilience and a strong sense of duty.

Before the marines of the 3rd Quick Reaction Force (QRF) of the Mozambican Navy, Commander Caetano shared his testimony during a motivational lecture addressed to the military personnel currently undergoing the regeneration cycle, reinforcing the values of commitment, honour and esprit de corps.

EUMAM MOZ’s participation in this celebration reflects the recognition of the role played by the FADM in defending national sovereignty and the importance of preserving the legacy of those who served Mozambique with distinction.

EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission focused on specialised training, mentoring and advising, with the aim of ensuring that the FADM become self-sufficient in countering the insurgency, while always operating in full compliance with International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law.
