EUMAM MOZ promotes sexual education awareness session in Maputo school community

Maputo, Mozambique - Initiative at Eduardo Mondlane Secondary School raised awareness among around 250 children about the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, early pregnancy and the importance of informed decision-making.

The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) held a sexual education awareness session at Eduardo Mondlane Secondary School in Maputo, reaching around 250 children, in an initiative that reinforces the Mission’s commitment to raising awareness, sharing knowledge and promoting community well-being.

The session addressed key topics related to young people’s health and development, including the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, early pregnancy, and sexual and reproductive rights. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of information as a tool for making informed decisions and adopting healthy lifestyles.

The initiative was attended by Brigadier General Sérgio Estrela, the new EUMAM MOZ Mission Force Commander, who followed the activity closely and observed the work carried out by the Mission in close cooperation with the local community.

At the end of the session, the Mission Force Commander and the Mission’s medical officer presented the school with a basket of hygiene products, which was received by the School Director, in a gesture of solidarity and support for the school community.

This activity is part of the range of civil-military cooperation initiatives carried out by EUMAM MOZ, complementing its mission of advising and mentoring the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM).

Beyond sharing knowledge, these initiatives help promote dialogue, raise awareness and strengthen ties with the population, reflecting EUMAM MOZ’s commitment to an approach that is close to the community, responsible and focused on the well-being of Mozambican communities.
