EUMAM MOZ receives delegation from Canada, the Dallaire Institute and UNICEF to strengthen cooperation in the field of human rights
Present at the meeting were the Mission Force Commander, Commodore César Pires Correia, accompanied by two EUMAM MOZ advisors: the Gender Advisor Mentoring Officer (GENAD) and the Code of Conduct and Prisoner Handling Advisor (CTAD).
The Dallaire Institute and UNICEF are currently conducting training activities for the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (FADM), focusing on the protection of children in armed conflict and the promotion of respect for human rights. The meeting aimed at sharing information and experiences between these partners and EUMAM MOZ.
During the discussions, the High Commission of Canada and its partners sought to gain a better understanding of EUMAM MOZ’s work, including key achievements, challenges on the ground, lessons learned and identified best practices. UNICEF and the Dallaire Institute also presented the initiatives they are implementing in coordination with the Ministry of Defence, namely training programmes to prevent the recruitment and use of children by armed groups, strengthen protection mechanisms, and integrate a human rights perspective into military operations.
This initiative aimed to enhance coordination between national and international partners, prevent duplication of efforts and foster synergies toward a common objective: strengthening the capacities of the FADM to operate in accordance with international human rights standards and international humanitarian law, with particular attention to the protection of children and other vulnerable groups in conflict situations.
EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission with a mandate until June 2026. The mission supports the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (FADM) with the objective of enhancing the sustainability of Mozambique’s Quick Reaction Forces (QRF), integrating them into a robust and autonomous operational cycle. The mission currently comprises 83 military personnel from 12 different nationalities.
