Maputo, Mozambique – The Mission Force Commander of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) awarded certificates of appreciation to 11 members of the Mozambican Air Force (FAM) in recognition of the selfless, professional and exemplary manner in which they contributed to the delivery of the first Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Course conducted entirely by Mozambican instructors, under the supervision of EUMAM MOZ.

Of the personnel recognised, 10 belong to the FAM Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) and one serves in the FAM Operations Department. They played a decisive role in conducting this pioneering training activity, which represents an important milestone in the development of national operational capabilities.

With an approximate duration of six months, the course qualified the personnel who have successfully completed it to perform the duties of Forward Air Controllers (FAC). This qualification enables them to direct and coordinate the employment of fixed-wing and rotary-wing combat aircraft in close air support missions, ensuring effective integration between air assets and ground forces, including in highly complex operational scenarios.

The delivery of this course by national instructors constitutes a significant step towards strengthening the autonomy of the Mozambican Air Force and, consequently, of the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM), demonstrating the growing ability of Mozambican military institutions to develop, consolidate and sustain critical capabilities for modern and effective armed forces.

EUMAM MOZ congratulated the recognised personnel for their commitment, dedication and outstanding sense of duty, highlighting that this achievement reflects the success of the cooperation between the European Union and Mozambique in strengthening national defence and security capabilities.

This progress also contributes to enhancing FADM’s capacity to respond to the terrorist threat affecting Cabo Delgado Province, promoting greater operational effectiveness and stronger coordination between the different branches of the armed forces.
