International Humanitarian Law and Protection of Civilians on focus in the Train-the-Trainers Programme

Katembe, Mozambique - Today, at the Katembe Training Camp, military personnel from the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM) develop their knowledge on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Protection of Civilians, understanding the importance of this topics in pratical situations. 

Participants from the Train-the-Trainers Programme, and members of the Quick Reactions Forces (QRF) of the FADM, explore the principles of the IHL, the Protection of Civilians and also evaluated some case studies.

With the assistance from the Legal Advisor (LEGAD) of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ), the participants understood the collatetal damages and usual common mistakes that happen in situations of conflit. Furthemore they understood the importance of the terms and their responsability on being agents of defence of the IHL and the Protection of Civilians.

EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive mission with a mandate until June 2026. It supports the FADM with the objective of strengthening the sustainability of Mozambique´s QRF, embedding them within a robust and autonomous operational cycle.
