Maputo, Mozambique — More than 20 military and civilian personnel from the European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) took part in a blood donation campaign held at the Heart Institute (ICOR) in Maputo over the past two days.

The initiative aimed to support cardiac surgery programmes for underprivileged children, helping to reinforce the blood reserves essential for carrying out these surgical procedures.

This solidarity initiative was conducted in cooperation with the Heart Institute (ICOR) and the Blood Bank of Maputo Central Hospital, further strengthening the partnership and cooperation between these institutions and the European Union Mission in Mozambique.

EUMAM MOZ’s participation in this campaign is not new and reflects the Mission’s continued commitment to social responsibility initiatives and support to local communities.

Blood donation is a voluntary and altruistic act that can save lives. To donate blood, individuals must be between 18 and 69 years old and weigh more than 50 kilograms.

EUMAM MOZ continues to operate in full compliance with International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law, and underlines that small gestures can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most. The Mission is currently commanded by Commodore César Pires Correia of the Portuguese Navy and comprises more than 80 military and civilian personnel from 12 nationalities.
