EUTM-MOZ J6 Branch – Communications and Information Systems

The J6 Branch works in coordination with all other Branches concerning all the CIS aspects of the mission and is the first Point of Contact for outsourced civilian services providers. Is responsible for the CIS policy in the mission, including documentation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)/ Signal Operating Instructions (SOI), and for the activation of the reaction/correcting procedures and measures in case of CIS incidents or malfunctions. Also provides guidance on CIS policy and Information Security (InfoSec), including support for Cyber Defence of the Mission CIS equipment and networks.

The J6 Branch is composed of the J6 Head and two different teams for the CIS support that ensure the helpdesk service on Information Technology support to all the mission users and administrate local area networks, which ensures the day-to-day management of the EUTM network environment core services and end-user equipment. One Team is located in Maputo with the J6 CIS NCO and J6 ComSec (Satcom / Network), and the other Team is located in Chimoio with the S6 Head and J6 CIS Specialist (Server / EUAM), which has one important role in advisory, educational and training activities related to Communications to Mozambican Armed Forces (FADM) trainees.

InfoSec is guaranteed by the systems implemented in the network in close coordination with the J3 Branch, more specifically with J3 Cyber Operations, but also with the cryptographic systems that are also managed by the J6 Branch, which enable communications in different security classifications.

The challenge of the J6 Branch is to keep all the services and systems running with a high availability rate to EUTM-Moz users. The range of services and systems varies from the management of the Firewall, the server of Active Directory, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol and Domain Name Server, Email, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Call Manager, and File Share Servers. To support the operation and monitoring of the outsourced satellite link network and manage the systems of Mobile Radio and Video Teleconference.
