EUTM Mozambique welcomes Finnish Delegation to Katembe Training Camp
The delegation included the Ambassador of Finland H.E. Ms. Anna-Kaisa Heikkinen, the Ambassadors of Finland to Ethiopia, Namibia, Tanzania, South Africa, Egypt and Kenya, several Counsellors and Members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss topics of mutual interest, ongoing and future cooperation between the EUTM MOZ and Finland.
The visit allowed the EUTM MOZ Command to brief the delegation on the EUTM MOZ mission and contribution to the capability building of the Mozambican armed forces’ units, selected to compose future Quick Reaction Forces (QRF).
The delegation also had the opportunity to tour the camp and observe where the training activities take place.
The EUTM MOZ has 118 military and civilian personnel from 12 European Union member states - Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden. Finland currently contributes with 3 military to the EUTM MOZ, including the Deputy Mission Force Commander and Chief of Staff.
The EUTM MOZ mission is to provide training and support to the Mozambican armed forces to protect the civilian population and restore security in the Cabo Delgado province. The mission has a non-executive mandate and will end two years after the mission has reached Full Operational Capability. The EUTM MOZ is one of the tools to address the crisis in Cabo Delgado, in conjunction with support for peacebuilding, conflict prevention and dialogue support, humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.
