The FAZSOI joined forces with the EUTM MOZ

A French Mobile Training Team from the Forces Armées dans la Zone Sud de l'Océan Indien (FAZSOI) augmented the European Union Training Mission Mozambique (EUTM MOZ), from the 06th of February to the 03rd of March 2023 to train the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM) Quick Reaction Forces (QRF) fighting the terrorism in Cabo Delgado Province.

Coming from La Reunion Island, the 13 French soldiers from the 2e Régiment de Parachutistes d'infanterie de Marine (2e RPIMa) have been regularly deployed in Maputo and Chimoio to carry out training in the domain of Combat Service and Support (CSS). Their geographical proximity, availability and knowledge make them valuable allies to improve the capacities of the FADM QRFs.

Weapons maintenance, mechanics of vehicles, boats and small equipment, as well as combat first aid and logistics convoys were some of the training subjects delivered by the FAZSOI. The QRF CSS platoon had made an enormous progress in these different fields and is now fully able to carry out its mission.

Beyond the usual training in the above-mentioned areas FAZSOI included this time operations with drones and motorized combat training.

Indeed, some light drones were recently delivered to the FADM through the European Peace Facility (EPF) Urgent Measures program and the French specialists taught the reconnaissance Squad how to use them. These drones will provide to the QRF a new defence capacity being employed in surveillance missions, short-range detection and gather intelligence information, without taking useless risks and endangering human life.

New vehicles were also provided by EU and have been used to perform the motorized combat training. Yet, based on the expertise gained these last years in Sahel, the FAZSOI trained all the QRFs Platoons on the procedures against improvised explosive devices. The QRFs are now able to protect themselves against this type of attacks and to react effectively if necessary.

Brigade General Laurent CLUZEL, Commander of the FAZSOI, took advantage of the presence of his men in Mozambique to visit the Mission and meet both, the Director of the Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC) and Mission Commander of the EUTM MOZ, Vice Admiral Herve BLEJEAN, and the Force Commander, Commodore Rogério Brito. He was able to observe the progress made by the mission and recall the mutual interests that unite both structures.

This partnership between the FAZSOI and EUTM MOZ is also very important in the interest of the FADM and the Mozambican People.
