EVSDA 2025 – ‘PRODUCT DESIGN’ SHORTLIST – PAO: THE LIGHT OF DREAMS (LÊ HÀ ĐÔNG)

In the native language of the individuals in the group, "Pao" means "dream."

The harmony between the traditional knitting technique of the S'Tieng and the traditional weaving technique of the Ma people resulted in the creation of unique and creative PAO decorative lamps that are produced in Dong Nai, Vietnam. Recognizing the danger of losing an indigenous culture under the pressure of modernization and globalization, with love and passion for it, the author has learned and practiced traditional and creative techniques.

Product structure: inner iron frame to keep shape; top and bottom parts are woven with standard bamboo, smoked to create natural black color, fixed with rattan buttons; middle part is plastic-coated brocade fabric, hand-embroidered with traditional motifs; top part is made of round lath, allowing the lamp to stand or hang flexibly.
