EVSDA 2025 – ‘ARCHITECTURE’ SHORTLIST – EARTHENWARE HOUSE (NAQI & PARTNERS)
*
The house is a home for a family of four, where the husband – a construction contractor and craft artist – wanted to renovate an old tube house in Bình Dương into a living space that reflects personal character and local culture. He requested to retain the existing structure while introducing nature, light, and craftsmanship to nurture daily creative inspiration.
The plot is located on a small alley in the Lái Thiêu area, famous for its Lái Thiêu ceramics tradition – a wood-fired pottery craft originating in the 18th century, bearing witness to Southern Vietnam’s cultural flow. The ceramic pieces that once traveled with river merchants and permeated daily life in the region now become the soul of the Earthenware House project. In this small house, we incorporated ceramic materials into both architecture and interior, so that every door handle and every step evokes the generous, rustic spirit of the land.
