EVSDA 2025 – ‘PRODUCT DESIGN’ SHORTLIST – SPRINGO (NGUYỄN ANH TUẤN)

*

This project explores the possibility of using rattan as a natural alternative to the conventional steel spring. Rattan fibers, with their round cross-section and excellent flexibility under bending and torsion, provide unique elastic properties that resonate with the mechanics of a coil spring. By transforming rattan into a spring-like structure, the design seeks to merge structural logic with tactile comfort.

The result is a soft seating concept that combines the rhythmic elasticity of rattan springs with a clean, minimal frame. Beyond function, it celebrates rattan as a cultural material rooted in everyday life, while presenting it in a new, contemporary expression.
