EVSDA 2025 – ‘INNOVATION’ SHORTLIST – VÀNG SON ĐẤT MỘC (NGUYỄN DUY LONG)
*
The work “Vàng Son Đất Mộc” is inspired by the image of the Nhật Bình robe – a symbol of Vietnamese royal court attire – interpreted through traditional bamboo and rattan weaving techniques. The story depicts the silhouette of women in the feudal era, likened to “fish in a bowl, birds in a cage,” reflecting a different perspective on the image of royal women.
The material banana fiber is my personal experimentation with a familiar and environmentally friendly resource, combined with hand-weaving techniques to construct the garment’s shape. Completing the piece required 200 continuous hours of work, representing a steadfast dedication to cultural love and respect for traditional values. This is also my way of affirming a youthful spirit: to cherish, preserve, and renew cultural heritage through the lens of contemporary fashion.
