Message from the Ambassador
On 1st September 2024, Ms Imma Roca i Cortés, has been appointed EU Ambassador/ Head of Delegation to The Gambia.
Previous to this assignment and for over the last 25 years, Ms Imma ROCA i CORTÉS has been working in the foreign affairs policy of the European Union within the European Commission and the European External Action Service. She has served both at Headquarters in the Mexico and Central America and in the Middle East Divisions; and in EU Delegations abroad in Jordan, Nicaragua and Mexico as Deputy Head of Mission.
In September 2020, she was nominated Head of the EEAS Field Security Division and since November 2022, took additional responsibilities as Deputy Director of the EEAS Crisis Response Centre.
Ms Roca i Cortés was born in Balaguer – Lleida (Spain) and she has an academic background in political science (international relations and labour law) from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, and a postgraduate on European Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges.
She is married, has two children and she is fluent in French, English, Catalan and Spanish as mother tongues.
