Message from the Ambassador

Welcome to our website.

The EU and Indonesia have been close partners for more than 30 years. We have had a bilateral Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA), signed in 2009 and in force since 2014. This was the first in ASEAN, an indicator of our strong ties.

The EU sees Indonesia as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region and within ASEAN. Our aim is to expand our relations in areas of mutual interest. A priority is concluding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) free trade negotiations. Besides, we aim to build a comprehensive “Green cooperation Agenda” with Indonesia, supporting the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting a carbon-neutral, circular society as soon as possible.

Multilaterally, we work together in the UN and in the G20, which Indonesia will chair in 2022. Indonesia and the EU are like-minded on the large majority of multilateral and regional questions.

Meanwhile, the EU shares a close working relationship with Brunei. We partner in multilateral fora, including ASEAN, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). We also cooperate on education, research, trade and consular affairs.
