Prof. Boga is a Professor of Microbiology at Jomo Kenyatta University. A former Humboldt Fellow and Humboldt Ambassador Scientist for Kenya (2010–2015), he served as Principal Secretary in Kenya's State Department for Crops Development and Agricultural Research, and today shapes the strategic direction of two of Africa's leading research institutions as a board member of ICIPE and ICRAF.
