The  summary executions carried out yesterday in Benghazi follow reports of several similar crimes committed in the past months in the same city. The European Union and the international community have repeatedly called for prompt and thorough investigations.

The disregard for international and Libyan law and the impunity of persons, including Mahmoud Mustafa Busayf Al-Werfalli, hinders the efforts to restore peace and safety for the Libyan people, and to give justice to victims of all such crimes. The European Union calls once again on all parties in Libya to fully cooperate with and respect the indictments by the International Criminal Court.

The EU reiterates its continuing strong support for the UN led mediation process in Libya and calls on all stakeholders to rally behind the objective of a sustainable solution to Libya's political crisis in a spirit of compromise.
