President Museveni meets European Union Ambassadors for political dialogue

The Political Dialogue meeting between the Republic of Uganda and the European Union was held in the context of Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement.

On 6 March 2018, President Museveni met the European Union Ambassadors at the State House, Entebbe, in the context of the Political Dialogue between the Government of the Republic of Uganda and the European Union foreseen under Article 8 of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement.

The EU Delegation was led by the European Union Ambassador to Uganda, Ambassador Attilio Pacifici and comprised of the Ambassadors / Heads of Mission of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

On the Ugandan side H.E President Museveni led a large delegation of senior high level Government officials which included the Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire, Attorney General William Byaruhanga, Disaster Preparedness Minister Hillary Onek and Regional Affairs State Minister Philemon Mateke among others.

The dialogue was rich, constructive and wide-ranging. It focused on areas of mutual interest including Global issues, business climate, governance, democracy and human rights, regional political and security issues. Both partners expressed satisfaction for the constructive, candid and engaging format and methodology adopted to hold their political dialogue and agreed to reconvene in September/October 2018. The last Article 8 Dialogue between the EU and the Government of Uganda was held on July 13th, 2017.
